A small river painting

I needed a break from portraits today so I tackled another subject I struggle with, which is nature, and greens in particular.

I wanted to get a Studio-Ghibli-Preproduction-Sketch feeling to it, because I find their work just so evocative and beautiful. For this reason I used a pencil for the lines, not a pen. Looking at it now, I can say I succeeded to a degree but there’s plenty more to learn. Which is great, of course – all the more reason to keep painting!

I’m grateful to Aenea Jones at Deviant Art for the reference photo!
