Find me on Facebook!

I’ve finally gotten around to setting up a proper Facebook page for my art – up to now I’ve been using my personal account, which isn’t really ideal.

You can find me at http://facebook.com/LPBakerArt – or, if you look in the sidebar you’ll see a “like box” where you can “like” my page with just one click!

I hope you’ll join me there.  Apart from posting my finished paintings, I’ll also be sharing progress pictures and other tidbits related specifically to my art :)

“Nude with fan”, stage 2

I’ve finally gotten a chance to do some more work on this.  I’ve added some colour and corrected the proportions around the hips as much as I can.   I can see now that I misread the angle of the torso, but it’s not so serious as to require starting over.

Here’s how it looks now – I’d say one more session after this dries and it will be complete :)

New painting underway – “Nude with fan”

It’s been a while since I attempted a figurative painting, and in my DeviantArt “watch list” this morning was the perfect reference :)

Working in oil on an 11×14″ canvas panel, so far I have laid in the sketch and some basic shading in raw umber just to get a feel for the form.  I’ll let this dry and get some colour happening in the next session.

This is also the first time I’ve used my new camera (Sony DSC-HX100V) to photograph a painting, and I’m happy to see it does an excellent job :)

Finally, some new art — sort of …

Being unwell for a few months gave me plenty of time to catch up on books I’d been meaning to read and artists I meant to check out.  Along the way I was exposed to the idea of taking pencil sketches and colouring them using the computer, something I haven’t tried before today.  I really like the results, and will definitely be doing more art this way!

So these are old drawings, but newly coloured.  I used Artrage Studio Pro 3 for these.

Great life drawing class today!

I got to a life drawing class today with Mignon Parker, which I’d been looking forward to for some weeks as there are few classes in my local area.

Mignon was great, the class very relaxed and friendly, and the model (Tash) was superb and gave us some really beautiful poses to work from.

Here’s a selection from today’s drawings – in total I did over a dozen.  The longest pose was for 15 minutes (that’s the shaded one) so I’m really pleased with what I was able to capture in a much shorter time than I’d normally work to!

First nude in ages!

For various reasons, it’s been quite some time since I did a nude.  Earlier this year I signed up to a life-drawing session which is this Tuesday, so I thought I’d better get some practice in so I don’t waste the session trying to re-acquire basic skills.

I selected a photograph from the always-inspiring Domai.com and busted this sketch out in about half an hour.  I’m quite pleased with how it turned out given how long it’s been since the last one, although I see my perennial habit of drawing the breasts too high and stretching the lower torso hasn’t gone away.  Oh well, this is precisely why I need more practice!
