Jack-in-the-box painting, almost complete

Since the “Lego” painting isn’t dry enough to work on more today I had another look at the jack-in-the-box, and immediately realised that what was “off” was that the colours in the light had become too subdued.  Starting with a fresh palette I mixed some much brighter and stronger colours and re-painted the lights, as well as fixing up the stars and a few other details along the way.

I think it looks much better now, and I know it’s nearing completion because I now can’t get a photograph of it that looks as good as the actual painting does.

Side note: Any people experienced with photographing paintings?  There must be tricks to it, but I sure don’t know them.  Advice and/or links, please!
